You can’t eat out all the time, as much as we might encourage it. (Although if you do decide to eat out all the time, we hope you use our site as a guide!) But that’s not what this is about, this is for those times when you want some fine quality ingredients for cooking at home.
Markets have been around as long as humans have engaged in trade. Calgary was basically founded around a market, Fort Calgary was sited at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers, where the Blackfoot, Nakoda, Tsuut’ina and Métis peoples met to trade. And we still trade today.
While traditional outdoor farmer’s markets are seasonal, usually closing after Thanksgiving, our wonderful winter means we have developed year-round markets here in Calgary. These indoor havens offer so much more than just produce, but they are our go-to destinations for fresh ingredients, even in the depth of winter. Here’s a few of them for you to consider:
- Calgary Farmers Market – Just off Blackfoot Trail & Heritage Drive, 510 77th Avenue SE
- Crossroads Market – Just off Blackfoot Trail & Ogden Road, 1235 26 Avenue SE
- Farmers and Makers Market at cSPACE – in Marda Loop, 1721 29 Avenue SW
- Hillhurst Sunnyside Farmers’ Market – in Hillhurst Community Centre, 1320 5 Avenue NW
- Market on Macleod – South down Macleod, 7711 Macleod Trail S
