Today marks the end of another trip around the sun, and we here at Dining Out plan to celebrate with wine, women and song!
OK, that’s just referencing an old saying: I prefer beer, and our esteemed editor Joel prefers rum and coke; he’s married and I’m dating; and you don’t want to let either of us near a karaoke machine. However we will celebrate with friends and loved ones, and we hope you do too!
While libations are a definite part of our New Year’s Eve ritual, we understand that not everyone prefers to start the year that way, so here’s a few other things you can do today.
- Midnight fireworks at the Calgary Tower
- Food Trucks, art and ice sculptures from 6-10 pm, 3rd St SW downtown Calgary between 6 & 9 Ave.
- All kinds of family friendly stuff at the Central Library Dance Party, 800 3 Street SE, 6-9 pm.
- Skating Party at Olympic Plaza, 228 8 Ave SE, 7 – midnight.
- Pool Party at Southland Leisure Centre, 2000 Southland Dr SW, 6-8 pm.
- Pool Party at Village Square Leisure Centre, 623 56 St NE, 4-6 pm.
- Calgary Flames vs San Jose Sharks, Scotiabank Saddledome, 7 pm.
In addition there are numerous events from prix fixe formal dinners, costume events, dances, murder mysteries, tasting menus, bands, and yes, karaoke all over town. Pick the one that suits you and enjoy the evening. Just don’t drive home if you drink, Calgary’s finest will be on full alert tonight.
Drive safe and enjoy. Happy New Year!
